Whatever I feel like making it about

Two days* in a row? It’s posting madness!

This little thing is what will be known as my last Noro project. I’m so annoyed with the whole Kureyon experience right now I don’t ever want to touch this stuff again. This was a skein I actually bought at the yarn store, not from a swatch online.

This is what it looked like:

The blues, purples, blacks, I’m in love. So I brought it home. Eventually (as in yesterday) I did something with it. I pulled out the center, and the first bit was indeed a nice rich purple. That part lasted for the inner flap of this bag I made.

Then, things went horribly wrong. The colors coming out of that skein I had never imagined were in there. Red, yellow, gray, brown, blech! So here’s this weird little bag of many ugly colors:

and still, the barest shell of the skein that lies unused, is the only pretty part. I feel so betrayed.

Tomorrow, a new batch of dyed yarn and the almostpossiblycoulditbefinished star blanket.

*You know, when I tried to post this it was the 11th. Thanks blogger. Thanks for that.

Finishing stuff is fun, yes it is. I do believe I’m back in the groove. So let’s talk about this bag. This is the last of some yarn I had dyed to do the swirly thing, and it seemed to try a little striping toward the end. I got near the top and just couldn’t really figure out what I wanted to do with this. Definitely not icord. Anything but icord. I’m so on icord strike.

Let it stew in my twisty little head for a day or two, and thought maybe I could do some flaps, and attach them, and then use those to attached wooden handles? Don’t know. Let’s see the flaps, and toss it into the washing machine for felting.

Meanwhile, to ease the nerves, I found a lonely little skein of kureyon in my wool bin. What to make with one skein of kureyon? A small partitioned bag. I love making these, they go so fast and look so complicated. Look at all the scary sticks!

Back to the swirly/stripey bag. Sewed on the handles this morning. I. Love. This.

Also in the washing machine was my runabout and the little friend I made for it. The flap needs…something. I’m thinking magnetic closures and maybe just decorative buttons? I have some needle felting stuff to try a design on there, but that scares me a little. See that handle? Triple stranded crocheted chain. Take that, icord! Never again!

I followed the pattern on this, but the compartments seem kind of weird and bunchy in there. Perhaps I did not block it correctly.

Yes, it is another horrible picture. But it does look like a jackolantern, right? If you squint? Ok, so there are better, fancier patterns for jackolantern cloths out there, but this one is for those of us who prefer to just knit and purl and not do the color changing fiddly stuff.

Wow, twice in one week, can it be?

I am working on a new pattern for you. It had to be frogged and re-counted because someone (that would be me) forgot that 2×2=4, not six. Oops. I promise to watch lots of tv tonight and finish it for tomorrow.

I even finished my roundabout and got it ready to felt.

Then the leftover bits of yarn told me they needed to be a matching cell phone or ipod case or … something. So I got a little distracted and am not quite ready to felt yet.

In the non-knitting craft world, I am trying to use up stuff I have and work steadily toward the craft fair, instead of killing myself the week before. So far, so good. Yesterday I did record bowls.

I did lots and lots of record bowls. There are actually several places I need to do record bowls for this month. This is a start. I’ve found the easiest way to make them uniform enough to stack is the Double Metal Bowl Smash method.

Hey, if you look closely enough you can find a messy kitchen to scold me about.
