Will Radik claims

I Convince RandomNicole to Shave Her Bichon-Frise

Ok, I was going to do it anyway, you brat. Also, he had some mats that required a little close shaving. So SUCK IT.

Blogging may or may not be sparse for the next few weeks. Like that’s news? Exactly.

Like omg, I’m knitting again!

Posted by randomnicole on June 17, 2008

Thanks to Wendy, who designed a sock pattern based on the dancing banana over on Plurk. Here are mine so far, the pattern is called Nanner Socks, mine are Rotten Nanners due to the colors. I’m even going to try and keep up with my project on Ravelry. I’m even trying to get my patterns uploaded there as pdf files.  Ambitions, I have them.

My beta site addiction continues unabated. (I kill me.) New this week is Kwippy, and of course I have invites. You knew that.

A friend brought over some furniture this weekend, a few beautiful antique pieces, some very cool kitchen gadgetry, and this marvelous…thing. The pig pedestal was truly what was missing from my life. I love this thing so much, it’s sick.

Part 2 of the latest podcast episode will be out this week, and we’re recording a new one with Diane from Tasty Jewelry as well.

The tattoo that wasn’t

Posted by randomnicole on June 14, 2008

It started with an email from the Dallas Observer about this Friday the 13th Tattoo Marathon. The email said this:

24-Hour Tattoo Marathon at Elm Street Tattoo from Thursday, June 12 at Midnight through Friday, the 13th at Midnight. Come out and Party with us, we’ll have BBQ & Hangin’ out next door with our friends at July Alley all day and all night! Get a tattoo of the #13 for only $13 (plus $7 tip for good luck!). Elm Street Tattoo is attempting to set some WORLD RECORDS! Get tattooed by our local artists as well as tattooers from all over the country! Pre-party at the Doublewide with the Ramonahs on Wednesday, June 11th from 10pm -2pm!

Elm Street Tattoo
2811 Elm Street in Deep Ellum

I did some further googling and found it mentioned a few places, as well as previous year’s marathons.

you have to pick your tattoo from a big board filled with around 100 variations of 13’s: a 13 on a skull, in hebrew, tons of type faces, a 13 made out of boobs and a pearl necklace…

yeah, they do it every friday tattoo, only the $20 ones, they try to break their Guinness world record every time. There are two a year.
If you want good, wait in line for Oliver, or check out some of the guest tattoo artist. The guy i has was shaking, but after waiting in line, i didn’t want to not get it, so i just got some dots around my wrist. It is a lot of fun, they start on Thurs. night at midnight and go to midnight the next day. It is a big party. They have flash or “13″ tattoos that you can pick or you can do a design of your own, but it can’t be too big or too many colors.

Well, Deep Ellum is far from the suburbs and I didn’t really have anyone to go with, and of course had the kids with me all day, so I resigned myself to not getting a fabulous little “13″ tattoo.

But then! I was at a playdate Friday morning, and it turns out it was my friend’s birthday! She wanted to get a tattoo for her birthday and is also enamored of the number thirteen, so we made plans to grab an innocent bystander (the friend hosting the playdate. Hi Sharon!) and headed for Deep Ellum last night.

This is where I apologize for not taking more pictures of all the stuff last night. I am an idiot. Sorry.

We get down to the area, grab a nice parking place, and easily find the tattoo shop. We’re standing in a long line/crowd, people ahead of us clutching their waivers, the girl with the clipboard making her way further down the line each time, taking IDs and giving us our numbers. The guy needed to break the world record of 400, and apparently stopped booking at 405? I made it, anyway.

402

We stood around for an hour or so, chatting with the friendly people in line (one even lent his hat for a googly eye picture). The Monster energy drink people handed out free Monster drinks, then asked us all to hold them up for the camera for an ad. Considering the gagging faces of everyone around me tasting the Monster drinks, I doubt those pictures will show up anywhere anytime soon.

And then – someone comes down and tells us, this is the line for The Guy, and if you go on the other side, you can just go to the next available artist and be done. Since we didn’t want to hang out downtown until midnight, and The Guy had plenty of people to make his record, we jumped lines.

Sitting at a table underneath a board full of flash art featuring the #13 (little, cute, just the kind of stuff we wanted) the man at the table informs us that we can only get the one design. Everyone gets the same design. (pics of board and one of the tats would be nice here, huh? SORRY.) The same design, was a blocky, black “13″ measuring two and a half inches square. Um, I’m a little thing and wanted a little tattoo on my shoulder blade or boob or something. Not a giant, ugly blocky thing that really? I have no place big enough to put. Also, did I mention it is UGLY.

So we came back to my house, ate tacos, and played Wii bowling. Happy Birthday, AmySue! Gah.

Random Internets Stuff

Posted by randomnicole on June 11, 2008

Because I have nothing I feel like writing about, I’ll just copy and paste some random crap I come across during the day and call it a blog post. HAH!

Took this test, and I guess I wouldn’t have made it in the 1930’s. Shock. Seems I am not nearly subservient enough, who knew?

As a 1930s wife, I am
Very Poor (Failure)

Take the test!

Read a ton of posts over at Librarians Who Say Motherfucker.

Plurked too much. Tweeted just a little.

Took another shot at editing this nightmare of a podcast episode. Got some of it done, anyway.

Looked at some lolcats. Especially loved this one.

Twitter! Plurk! Ack!

Posted by randomnicole on June 3, 2008

It is no secret I’m a Twitter addict. Then, someone tweeted about Plurk, and things haven’t been the same since.

Everyone is arguing which is better, why one sucks, etc., whatever. I like both. As I just plurked (how awesome is the very word?), Twitter is the convention, and Plurk is the party. Who doesn’t want to attend both? Each fun in their own way, the party is just…crazy.
